Tinea Capitis Diagnosis and Treatment

Tinea Capitis is a hair loss disease rampant among children. It is a fungal infection on areas with skin, and is characterized by patchy hair loss which form round, oval, or irregular patches on the scalp, some of which look like hair broken on the surface. There may also be grey flakes or scales visible in the area.

The appearance of the scalp is the primary clue to the infection. Upon diagnosis, Wood’s lamp test may be performed to confirm the presence of fungal scalp infection.

Treatment for Tinea Capitis is quite easy. It may be treated with anti-fungal shampoo, twice or thrice a week for eight weeks. It is important to continue the use to achieve full treatment or treatment may prove to be a failure.
