Hair Loss, Common Beliefs, Fact or Myth? Part 4

Hair loss is sometimes triggered by stress

Fact. When stressed, the body produces chemicals that are found to affect natural hair growth.

Heat worsens hair loss.

Fact. The heat being referred to is that coming from heated brushes and blow driers. The heat is directly applied on the hair, and damages the proteins in them, making the strands fragile and more breakable. Also, brushing during hair drying causes even much bigger damage to the hair, so refrain from blow drying everyday. It is also possible to burn your scalp from the heated brushes, permanently damaging the follicles, and bring an end to hair growth on that area.

Losing hair at 30 is normal.

Fact. When a person reaches the age of 30, the hair follicles slowly decline from 615 hair follicles per square centimeter, to 485 by the age of 50, then to 435 at 8-90 years of age. As the age also progresses, each hair strand becomes finer, and sparser.
