Hair Loss, Common Beliefs, Fact or Myth? Part 2
Wigs and toupees worsen hair loss
Myth. Some people believe that hair requires air and space to breathe, meaning any cover such as wigs and toupeeās will worsen the loss of hair, but this is awfully false. Hair does not breathe at all. All the oxygen it needs is taken through the root of the hair, and obtains it from the blood in the scalp. Damage to the hair is only produced when these toupees, wigs, or even caps are worn too tight.
Baldness is in the genes; therefore, if your father has a full head, you will never go bald.
Myth. The tendency to become bald is inherited, and involves the genes from both parents, and the right combination. It is erroneous to claim that only genes from either of the parents are responsible for hair loss.
Conditioners and shampoos containing protein nourish the hair and help it to grow.
Myth. Commercials are not a hundred percent accurate. When they claim to make your hair smoother and thicker, it is only partially correct. Protein-containing conditioners and shampoo only temporarily fills in defects on the surface of the hair shaft, making it smoother and thicker. In the long run, it does not contribute to additional hair, or the overall thickness of the strand.
