Some hair loss conditions is no longer affected by medication, and requires the patient to resort to extreme means. The following processes are done in cases of permanent hair loss, with absolutely no possibility of hair growth, or in the presence of complete hair depletion.

Hair Transplant

The success of hair transplant surgery depends on the principle of donor dominance. This means that hair will grown normally and healthy when there are healthy hair donors, even when transplanted into bald recipient sites.

There are also other methods which involves the scalp alone. The first is Scalp Reduction, wherein bald areas are reduced, or eliminated by removing the bald skin, then suturing the other ends. It offers a special benefit when the patient is suffering from extensive balding, and may be performed with hair transplant.

Another method is the Scalp Extender or Tissue Expander. The devices are inserted under the scalp for weeks, to stretch the hair-bearing areas. This part of the scalp will expand, and allow reduction in the balding areas.
